THE TROUT
Rainbow trout is
perhaps the favourite among Patagonian Fly
Fishermen due to its fighting instincts and
acrobatics. Luckily, rainbows are the
easiest to find within our waters.
Brown
trout are bigger, but elusive: their
location varies throughout the fishing
season as they migrate down stream from the
lakes to the rivers.
Brook trout can be
found easily in some locations. Trout
average size is about four pounds, and it
very rarely exceeds eight pounds. It is not
our policy to show trophy size pictures
taken decades ago.
Indeed, having reached unusual sizes by
predating at will on an indigenous fish
species -Patagonian Pejerrey- trout grew
fast and big when first imported into
Patagonia. Fifteen pound specimens were
rather common in those days. Nowadays the
fish are plentiful but smaller, having to
predate on smaller insects and juveniles.
Fortunately, these are easily imitated with
careful observation and appropriate fly
tying skills. . |
